Selkirk Wilderness Skiing Weather Forecast

Today's Forecast
Updated at: 3:30pm PDT - Mar 29th 2012

We had a group of 14 shredders up here for our last day of the season at SWS.  Conditions were EPIC for late March.  Blower powder at higher elevations and soft and buttery everywhere in between.  Even as I type in the last report up here at the lodge,  it’s literally “barfing snow” outside - wow, could we ask for a better day to wrap up on!  We are lucky up here on Meadow Mountain!

Thanks to everyone for the good times, big jumps, little jumps, tomohawks, yard sales, short & long stories, games of crud, and laughs all around!  We wish you a stellar summer and we looking forward to sharing some of our secret stashes with you all next season.

Signing off,

The SWS Guiding Team

Selkirk Wilderness Skiing 2012 season countdown

Message from Brenda Drury

Hello everyone and welcome to the 37th season at Selkirk Wilderness Skiing. With a higher than normal snowfall on Meadow Mountain last winter and the promise of La Niña’s return, we are excitedly anticipating the upcoming season. As such, we have been working hard over the summer to prepare for another powder-filled winter to welcome new and old guests alike.

This year we’ve added a couple of new packages to our classic line up, to offer you a little more variety – such as our new Selkirk Sampler 3-day option, and the new Intro to Catskiing package. We’ll also be continuing to offer top-of-the-line equipment rentals to give you the chance to try out the season’s latest gear. To learn about these packages and more, please visit our dates + rates page.

This year, as in past years, at Selkirk Wilderness we will continue to offer you a vacation that meets and exceeds your expectations. You can count on us to provide you with the safest and most fun-filled snowcat experience possible, because your powder holiday is our priority.

We look forward to seeing you when the snow is deep.

Guide’s Corner

The winter season is off to a great start with recent storms that have provided us with the beginnings of a great snowpack for the early building of our snowcat trails. Our saw crew spent September brushing and glading on the front side of the mountain, notably on “Rolling Thunder”, “No Name”, and “Bunga Bunga”. The work we completed spacing the trees the perfect distance apart will make the ski home even more fun. SWS has been committed to its glading program for over three decades, and it’s one of the reasons the runs continue to be so amazing.

New MSP Film “Attack of La Niña” Shot on Location at SWS

Attack of La Nina Movie Poster

With every Fall comes a fresh crop of ski and snowboard films to amp shredders up for the impending winter. This year we were excited to be featured in Matchstick Production's newest flick Attack of La Niña.

The segment features pro-skiers Ingrid Backstrom, Callum Pettit, and Cody Townsend skiing blower powder and doing old-school tricks off classic Selkirk cliffs when they were here in January 2011. The almost five minute piece is interspersed with grainy archival footage of the early days of SWS; Allan on Rolling Thunder in 1973, sending one-piece-suited guests off of cliffs in the late 80's, and other shots rife with skinny skis. There are brief interviews with both Brenda and her daughter Rachel, though unfortunately their synchronized back flips ended up on the cutting room floor. The entire movie is worth a watch, so if you haven't seen it yet you can order a copy or buy it on itunes.

This year marks the 2nd annual launch of our Capture the Experience video contest. To participate all you need to do is create a 30-60 second video from your stay at SWS. Anything goes!

There will be prizes for a number of different categories and one grand prize. Our panel of judges will be announcing the winners on April 20th, 2012, so be sure to get your videos in before that! To about the submission deadline and more, please see our contest details.
