SWS Runs of the day

Egyptian

Originally named for the manner in which one would exit the bottom of this run, we no longer have to (to music) “walk like an Egyptian”, thanks to the efforts of a summer chainsaw crew. Starting high in the subalpine, a couple of open pitches scattered with small clumps and narrow bands of trees brings you down the top third into the tree line. This is a good warm up for the middle third of the run which is marked by a slope break and a narrow open line (it gets wider!) which defines the right side of the run. Further to the right brings you into an unskiable cliff band. To the left however, an aggressive skier/ boarder can have an awful lot of fun free falling through these steep and sometimes open (Egyptian style open) trees (” would that be a skiable cliff band then?”). The lower part of the run mellows substantially allowing you to direct more of your energy into giggling and wiping your face. Although Egyptian is west south west facing, it tends to hold dry snow well, due to the protection from the trees along the south flank. You will find Egyptian on the top ten list of many of our returning guests.
