SWS Runs of the day

Rolling Thunder

This has been a bread and butter run for our skiers since the inception of SWS in 1976. Starting from high in the sub-alpine where a climbing ridge becomes too narrow for snowcat traffic, skiers roll across the upper open meadows and then thunder down through the middle and lower slopes where the trees become more abundant and the slopes become more aggressive. The left side of Rolling Thunder top to bottom is on Allan’s list of top five favourites. The three or four main runs (depending on skier spread) down the front of RT (as it has become known to the staff) are ever popular as consistent face shots are normal fair. RT is also a starting point for several other top quality runs into Thunder Bowl, such as Gauntlet and Gallows, and Reg’s Ridge. There are also several shorter runs into Beaver Bowl such as Allan’s Glades, Little Trees and Rock Run. Either warming up for the day, or winding down from it, RT is a terrific place to spend a few hours.
